Frozen Fish Meat Market Size in Poland

For the fourth consecutive year, the Polish frozen fish meat market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 1.2% to $X in 2021. Overall, consumption, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, frozen fish meat production reduced to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, the total production indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production increased by +84.5% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 58% against the previous year. Exports from Poland

In 2021, exports of frozen fish meat from Poland rose slightly to X tons, with an increase of 2.1% compared with 2020 figures. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 24%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, frozen fish meat exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 50% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Denmark (X tons), France (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main destinations of frozen fish meat exports from Poland, with a combined 44% share of total exports. Sweden, the UK, Finland, Belarus, Ukraine, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Spain, Vietnam and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 43%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Spain (with a CAGR of +75.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, France ($X), Denmark ($X) and Germany ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for frozen fish meat exported from Poland worldwide, with a combined 50% share of total exports. Sweden, Finland, Belgium, the Netherlands, the UK, Belarus, Lithuania, Vietnam, Ukraine and Spain lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 41%.

Belarus, with a CAGR of +65.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the average frozen fish meat export price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 20% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a mild curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 21% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belarus (+13.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Poland

In 2021, after three years of growth, there was decline in overseas purchases of frozen fish meat, when their volume decreased by -1.8% to X tons. Overall, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 12%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, frozen fish meat imports expanded slightly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 29% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Iceland (X tons), Norway (X tons) and Sweden (X tons) were the main suppliers of frozen fish meat imports to Poland, with a combined 55% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Sweden (with a CAGR of +43.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Sweden ($X), Iceland ($X) and Norway ($X) constituted the largest frozen fish meat suppliers to Poland, together comprising 50% of total imports.
