Garlic Market Size in Poland
In 2022, after seven years of growth, there was significant decline in the Polish garlic market, when its value decreased by -10.9% to $X. In general, consumption, however, recorded a buoyant increase. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X, and then shrank in the following year.
Garlic Production in Poland
In value terms, garlic production declined remarkably to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, posted pronounced growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 78% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.
In 2022, the average yield of garlic in Poland dropped to X tons per ha, with a decrease of -5.5% on the year before. Over the period under review, the yield recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. As a result, the yield reached the peak level of X tons per ha. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the average garlic yield remained at a somewhat lower figure. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.

Garlic exports from Poland rose notably to X tons in 2022, increasing by 6.2% against 2021 figures. Over the period under review, exports recorded a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 239% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, garlic exports contracted dramatically to $X in 2022. In general, exports enjoyed significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 227% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

The Netherlands (X tons) was the main destination for garlic exports from Poland, with a 71% share of total exports. Moreover, garlic exports to the Netherlands exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Ukraine (X tons), fivefold. The UK (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 5.1% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to the Netherlands stood at +175.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ukraine (+136.5% per year) and the UK (+28.4% per year).
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) remains the key foreign market for garlic exports from Poland, comprising 68% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the UK ($X), with a 10% share of total exports. It was followed by Ukraine, with a 9.1% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the Netherlands totaled +167.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the UK (+38.0% per year) and Ukraine (+158.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average garlic export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, shrinking by -20.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a pronounced contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average export price increased by 24%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Moldova ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ukraine (+9.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Poland
In 2022, garlic imports into Poland expanded remarkably to X tons, increasing by 13% on 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 35% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

In 2022, Spain (X tons) constituted the largest garlic supplier to Poland, accounting for a 66% share of total imports. Moreover, garlic imports from Spain exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Egypt (X tons), threefold. China (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 4.7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Spain totaled +28.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Egypt (+13.5% per year) and China (-6.7% per year).
In value terms, Spain ($X) constituted the largest supplier of garlic to Poland, comprising 69% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Egypt ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 7.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Spain amounted to +28.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Egypt (+10.3% per year) and Germany (+6.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average garlic import price amounted to $X per ton, waning by -20.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 42%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2021, and then declined remarkably in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Egypt ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
