The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, gingerbread, sweet biscuit and waffle imports expanded remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +96.5% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In 2022, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of gingerbread, sweet biscuit and waffle to Poland, accounting for a 30% share of total imports. Moreover, gingerbread, sweet biscuit and waffle imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Ukraine (X tons), threefold. The Netherlands (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Germany totaled +1.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Ukraine (+94.8% per year) and the Netherlands (+13.7% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of gingerbread, sweet biscuits and waffles to Poland, comprising 37% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Netherlands ($X), with a 7.7% share of total imports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 6.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Germany stood at +3.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (+13.2% per year) and the Czech Republic (+7.9% per year).

In 2022, the average import price for gingerbread, sweet biscuits and waffles amounted to $X per ton, approximately reflecting the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average import price increased by 9.5% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Bulgaria ($X per ton), while the price for Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
