Graphite Market Size in Poland

The Polish graphite market skyrocketed to $X in 2021, jumping by 48% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). In 2021, overseas shipments of graphite (natural) were finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a sharp reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 62%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, graphite exports shrank significantly to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 81%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Serbia (X tons) was the main destination for graphite exports from Poland, accounting for a 48% share of total exports. Moreover, graphite exports to Serbia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United States (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Russia (X tons), with a 17% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Serbia totaled +26.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United States (+4.8% per year) and Russia (-14.5% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for graphite exported from Poland were the United States ($X), Serbia ($X) and Russia ($X), together accounting for 89% of total exports.

Among the main countries of destination, Serbia, with a CAGR of +48.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

Export Prices by Country

The average graphite export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, dropping by -32.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed pronounced growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average export price increased by 202% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Romania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Serbia (+16.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of graphite (natural), when their volume increased by 38% to X tons. In general, imports continue to indicate a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 51% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, graphite imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports enjoyed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 59% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

In 2021, South Korea (X tons) constituted the largest graphite supplier to Poland, accounting for a 45% share of total imports. Moreover, graphite imports from South Korea exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Brazil (X tons), threefold. China (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 12% share.
