The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -24.1% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 76%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In general, total exports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +82.0% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 100%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.

Germany (X tons), Sweden (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) were the main destinations of non-wheat groats exports from Poland, together comprising 49% of total exports. The Czech Republic, the Netherlands, France, Lithuania and Angola lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 32%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +61.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the key foreign market for groats and meal of cereals (excluding wheat) exports from Poland, comprising 35% of total exports. In 2021, purchases abroad of groats and meal of cereals (excluding wheat) decreased by -23.1% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, imports showed a noticeable slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 128% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, non-wheat groats imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a moderate expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 55%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

Russia (X tons), Finland (X tons) and Lithuania (X tons) were the main suppliers of non-wheat groats imports to Poland, together accounting for 45% of total imports. These countries were followed by Italy, Ukraine, Latvia, Estonia, Hungary, Belgium and Spain, which together accounted for a further 45%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Latvia (with a CAGR of +189.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest non-wheat groats suppliers to Poland were Lithuania ($X), Russia ($X) and Finland ($X), together comprising 46% of total imports. Estonia, Italy, Latvia, Belgium, Ukraine, Hungary and Spain lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 35%.

In 2021, the average non-wheat groats import price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 61% against the previous year. In general, the import price posted a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 66% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($X per ton), while the price for Hungary ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
