Handmade Paper Market Size in Poland

In 2021, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in the Polish handmade paper market, when its value decreased by -8.9% to $X. In general, consumption, however, enjoyed prominent growth. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, handmade paper production rose sharply to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production saw a abrupt contraction. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, handmade paper exports dropped markedly to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a moderate expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 5,455% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

The UK (X tons), Austria (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) were the main destinations of handmade paper exports from Poland, with a combined 53% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Belgium (with a CAGR of +300.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of handmade paper and paperboard decreased by -20.2% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after four years of growth. In general, imports recorded a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 118%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, handmade paper imports expanded to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 199%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, Sweden (X tons) constituted the largest handmade paper supplier to Poland, with a 54% share of total imports. Moreover, handmade paper imports from Sweden exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Lithuania (X tons), with a 7.1% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Sweden stood at +3.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (-10.7% per year) and Lithuania (-20.3% per year).

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the average import price increased by 53% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
