After four years of growth, the Polish heat pump market decreased by -14.1% to $X in 2021. Overall, consumption continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the market remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, shipments abroad of heat pumps (other than air conditioning machines) increased by 134% to X units, rising for the third year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports saw significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 180% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, heat pump exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 200%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Germany (X units) was the main destination for heat pump exports from Poland, with a 65% share of total exports. Moreover, heat pump exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the Netherlands (X units), ninefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by France (X units), with a 5.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Germany amounted to +74.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Netherlands (+91.9% per year) and France (+70.8% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the key foreign market for heat pumps (other than air conditioning machines) exports from Poland, comprising 63% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Netherlands ($X), with a 6.1% share of total exports. It was followed by France, with a 5.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Germany stood at +57.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Netherlands (+69.3% per year) and France (+80.9% per year).

In 2021, the average heat pump export price amounted to $X per unit, falling by -13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a perceptible shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by 25%. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Czech Republic (+6.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Poland

For the fifth year in a row, Poland recorded growth in supplies from abroad of heat pumps (other than air conditioning machines), which increased by 52% to X units in 2021. Overall, imports showed a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 54%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, heat pump imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports saw a resilient increase. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Germany (X units), France (X units) and Sweden (X units) were the main suppliers of heat pump imports to Poland, together comprising 59% of total imports. China, Italy, the Czech Republic, Thailand, Ireland, Spain and Slovakia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 35%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Thailand (with a CAGR of +80.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), France ($X) and Sweden ($X) were the largest heat pump suppliers to Poland, together accounting for 63% of total imports. China, Italy, the Czech Republic, Ireland, Thailand, Spain and Slovakia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 33%.

Thailand, with a CAGR of +86.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average heat pump import price stood at $X per unit in 2021, surging by 2.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a slight descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average import price increased by 40%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2019 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Ireland ($X per unit), while the price for China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Slovakia (+7.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
