Exports from Poland
In 2021, overseas shipments of industrial fatty alcohols decreased by -34.3% to X tons, falling for the fourth consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 539% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, industrial fatty alcohols exports fell sharply to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, showed a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 324% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Hungary (X tons) was the main destination for industrial fatty alcohols exports from Poland, with a 50% share of total exports. Moreover, industrial fatty alcohols exports to Hungary exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Belarus (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Ukraine (X tons), with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Hungary totaled +131.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belarus (+86.9% per year) and Ukraine (+24.3% per year).
In value terms, Hungary ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for industrial fatty alcohols exports from Poland, comprising 45% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by Ukraine, with a 10% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Hungary stood at +135.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belarus (+70.2% per year) and Ukraine (+3.8% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average industrial fatty alcohols export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 25% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a deep setback. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Germany ($X per ton) and Russia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to France ($X per ton) and Hungary ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Denmark (+2.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Industrial Fatty Alcohols Imports
Imports into Poland
In 2021, imports of industrial fatty alcohols into Poland rose slightly to X tons, picking up by 4.7% compared with 2020. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 13%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, industrial fatty alcohols imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, total imports indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +45.1% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
In 2021, the Netherlands (X tons) constituted the largest industrial fatty alcohols supplier to Poland, accounting for a 75% share of total imports. Moreover, industrial fatty alcohols imports from the Netherlands exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), fourfold. India (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 1.8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the Netherlands totaled +48.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+2.6% per year) and India (-1.4% per year).
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) constituted the largest supplier of industrial fatty alcohols to Poland, comprising 73% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with a 22% share of total imports. It was followed by India, with a 1.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from the Netherlands totaled +44.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+1.9% per year) and India (-3.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average industrial fatty alcohols import price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 30% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+24.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
