Germany (X tons), Ukraine (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main destinations of metal chain exports from Poland, with a combined 44% share of total exports. Russia, Norway, Belarus, Slovakia, Sierra Leone, the Czech Republic, Serbia, Belgium, France and the Netherlands lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 36%.

In 2022, the average metal chain export price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 3.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, metal chain export price increased by +84.2% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by 22% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belarus (+13.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Poland
In 2022, approx. X tons of iron or steel chain were imported into Poland; with an increase of 15% on 2021 figures. In general, imports, however, recorded a mild decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 25%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, metal chain imports expanded markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a slight slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 29%. Imports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest metal chain supplier to Poland, with a 43% share of total imports. Moreover, metal chain imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, South Korea (X tons), twofold. Germany (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China stood at +2.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Korea (+3.4% per year) and Germany (+5.4% per year).
In value terms, China ($X), Germany ($X) and South Korea ($X) were the largest metal chain suppliers to Poland, with a combined 70% share of total imports. Austria, the Czech Republic, Turkey and India lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 20%.
Turkey, with a CAGR of +46.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average metal chain import price amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -4.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the average import price increased by 25%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per ton), while the price for Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
