The Polish lemon and lime market contracted slightly to $X in 2022, remaining constant against the previous year. Exports by Country
Ukraine (X tons) was the main destination for lemon and lime exports from Poland, with a 87% share of total exports. Moreover, lemon and lime exports to Ukraine exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Lithuania (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Latvia (X tons), with a 1.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Ukraine stood at -10.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Lithuania (+5.5% per year) and Latvia (+0.2% per year).
In value terms, Ukraine ($X) remains the key foreign market for lemons and limes exports from Poland, comprising 87% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Lithuania ($X), with a 3.7% share of total exports. It was followed by the UK, with a 2.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Ukraine stood at -9.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Lithuania (+1.8% per year) and the UK (+37.1% per year).

The average lemon and lime export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 18% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 19%. The export price peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Latvia (+2.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, after five years of growth, there was decline in overseas purchases of lemons and limes, when their volume decreased by -3.1% to X tons. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 14% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then fell modestly in the following year.
In value terms, lemon and lime imports amounted to $X in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -12.0% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Spain (X tons), Turkey (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of lemon and lime imports to Poland, with a combined 70% share of total imports. Argentina, South Africa, Brazil and the Netherlands lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 25%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by South Africa (with a CAGR of +27.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Spain ($X), Germany ($X) and Turkey ($X) appeared to be the largest lemon and lime suppliers to Poland, together accounting for 69% of total imports. Argentina, South Africa, Brazil and the Netherlands lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 25%.
South Africa, with a CAGR of +25.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average lemon and lime import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 4.6% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.4%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the average import price increased by 24% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while the price for Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
