The Polish lentil market soared to $X in 2022, rising by 59% against the previous year. Over the period under review, exports recorded a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 147% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
In value terms, lentil exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, exports showed a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 117%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
Slovakia (X tons), Sweden (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main destinations of lentil exports from Poland, with a combined 51% share of total exports. Hungary, the Czech Republic, Latvia, France and Italy lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 37%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for France (with a CAGR of +318.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for lentil exported from Poland were Sweden ($X), Germany ($X) and Slovakia ($X), with a combined 44% share of total exports. Hungary, the Czech Republic, Latvia, France and Italy lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 40%.
Among the main countries of destination, France, with a CAGR of +271.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average lentil export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a pronounced descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average export price increased by 21%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Latvia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Slovakia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hungary (+7.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Poland
Lentil imports into Poland skyrocketed to X tons in 2022, growing by 28% against 2021. Over the period under review, imports posted a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 70%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, lentil imports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, imports showed a prominent expansion. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Canada (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of lentil to Poland, accounting for a 69% share of total imports. Moreover, lentil imports from Canada exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Russia (X tons), eightfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Turkey (X tons), with an 8.5% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Canada totaled +19.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Russia (+14.2% per year) and Turkey (+25.1% per year).
In value terms, Canada ($X) constituted the largest supplier of lentils to Poland, comprising 72% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkey ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by Russia, with a 7.7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Canada amounted to +23.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (+29.3% per year) and Russia (+19.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average lentil import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 30% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, lentil import price increased by +86.6% against 2019 indices. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while the price for Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+4.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
