Lithium Battery Market Size in Poland

In 2021, the Polish lithium battery market increased by 162% to $X, rising for the third consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption continues to indicate significant growth. As a result, consumption reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, after seven years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of lithium cells ans batteries, when their volume decreased by -24.4% to X tons. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 108% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2020, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, lithium battery exports reached $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 90%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Belgium (X tons) was the main destination for lithium battery exports from Poland, with a 56% share of total exports. Moreover, lithium battery exports to Belgium exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Denmark (X tons), sixfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Germany (X tons), with a 6.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Belgium stood at +27.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Denmark (+27.0% per year) and Germany (+29.3% per year).

In value terms, Belgium ($X) remains the key foreign market for lithium cells ans batteries exports from Poland, comprising 43% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Denmark ($X), with a 9.4% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with an 8.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Belgium stood at +24.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Denmark (+20.4% per year) and Germany (+25.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the average lithium battery export price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a pronounced curtailment. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into Poland

In 2021, approx. X tons of lithium cells ans batteries were imported into Poland; increasing by 10% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports posted a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 74% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

In value terms, lithium battery imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports showed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 50%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Germany (X tons), China (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main suppliers of lithium battery imports to Poland, together accounting for 64% of total imports. Belgium, Indonesia, France, Singapore, the United States and Japan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 29%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Belgium (with a CAGR of +52.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Belgium ($X) and China ($X) appeared to be the largest lithium battery suppliers to Poland, together accounting for 60% of total imports.

In terms of the main suppliers, Belgium, with a CAGR of +57.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average lithium battery import price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 8.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a noticeable descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average import price increased by 17% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (+3.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
