Magnesium Market Size in Poland

The Polish magnesium market expanded rapidly to $X in 2021, growing by 12% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). In general, the total consumption indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption decreased by -29.5% against 2019 indices. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Exports from Poland

Magnesium exports from Poland dropped rapidly to X tons in 2021, reducing by -16.3% compared with the year before. Overall, exports, however, showed prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 137% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then declined markedly in the following year.

In value terms, magnesium exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, showed a moderate increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 136% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

Germany (X tons), Hungary (X tons) and Slovakia (X tons) were the main destinations of magnesium exports from Poland, with a combined 67% share of total exports. These countries were followed by the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Austria, Turkey, Serbia and Ukraine, which together accounted for a further 31%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Slovenia (with a CAGR of +663.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Hungary ($X), Slovakia ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X) were the largest markets for magnesium exported from Poland worldwide, together accounting for 66% of total exports. Germany, Slovenia, Austria, Turkey, Ukraine and Serbia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 30%.

Slovenia, with a CAGR of +698.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average magnesium export price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 59% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a abrupt setback. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Serbia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (+11.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, purchases abroad of magnesium decreased by -2.4% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, total imports indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -30.6% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 25% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, magnesium imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the last nine years. In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest magnesium supplier to Poland, with a 68% share of total imports. Moreover, magnesium imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Slovakia (X tons), sixfold. The Netherlands (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from China amounted to +4.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Slovakia (+48.2% per year) and the Netherlands (+32.7% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of magnesium to Poland, comprising 62% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Slovakia ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from China stood at +1.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Slovakia (+48.4% per year) and the Netherlands (+31.5% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average magnesium import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 22% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a noticeable slump. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+19.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
