Manuka Market Size in Poland

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in the Polish manuka market, when its value decreased by -10.8% to $X. In general, the total consumption indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last decade. In 2022, overseas shipments of manuka decreased by -20% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 80% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, manuka exports shrank remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, posted a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 89% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then plummeted in the following year.

Germany (X tons), France (X tons) and Spain (X tons) were the main destinations of manuka exports from Poland, with a combined 41% share of total exports. Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, Belgium, the UK, Austria and Denmark lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 45%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Greece (with a CAGR of +212.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), France ($X) and Spain ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for manuka exported from Poland worldwide, with a combined 43% share of total exports. Greece, Bulgaria, Belgium, the UK, Italy, Austria and Denmark lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 42%.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Greece, with a CAGR of +216.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average manuka export price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 6% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average export price increased by 33%. The export price peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Denmark ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (+3.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Poland

After six years of growth, overseas purchases of manuka decreased by -16.5% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 41% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, manuka imports declined remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 38%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2021, and then shrank notably in the following year.

Imports by Country

China (X tons), Ukraine (X tons) and Lithuania (X tons) were the main suppliers of manuka imports to Poland, with a combined 89% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Lithuania (with a CAGR of +89.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest manuka suppliers to Poland were Ukraine ($X), China ($X) and Romania ($X), together accounting for 76% of total imports. Lithuania, Germany and Bulgaria lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 8.8%.

In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 15% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
