Germany (X tons) was the main destination for millet exports from Poland, with a 37% share of total exports. Moreover, millet exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Hungary (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Belgium (X tons), with a 15% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Germany stood at +27.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hungary (+31.9% per year) and Belgium (+9.9% per year).
In value terms, Germany ($X), Hungary ($X) and Belgium ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for millet exported from Poland worldwide, with a combined 70% share of total exports. The Netherlands, the Czech Republic and Greece lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 20%.
Greece, with a CAGR of +73.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average millet export price amounted to $X per ton, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a mild expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average export price increased by 67% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to Belgium ($X per ton) and Hungary ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Greece ($X per ton) and the Czech Republic ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hungary (+2.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Millet Imports
Imports into Poland
In 2022, imports of millet into Poland reduced notably to X tons, declining by -28.7% on 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 246% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then shrank notably in the following year.
In value terms, millet imports fell dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 241%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then contracted notably in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Ukraine (X tons) constituted the largest millet supplier to Poland, with a 89% share of total imports. Moreover, millet imports from Ukraine exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Czech Republic (X tons), more than tenfold. Kazakhstan (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 2.7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Ukraine amounted to +22.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Czech Republic (+28.0% per year) and Kazakhstan (-1.1% per year).
In value terms, Ukraine ($X) constituted the largest supplier of millet to Poland, comprising 81% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 7.4% share of total imports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with a 2.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Ukraine totaled +25.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Czech Republic (+36.6% per year) and Kazakhstan (+1.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average millet import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 6.6% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, millet import price increased by +18.4% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 68%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while the price for Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
