In value terms, millet imports fell dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 241%. In 2022, Ukraine (X tons) constituted the largest millet supplier to Poland, with a 89% share of total imports. Moreover, millet imports from Ukraine exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Czech Republic (X tons), more than tenfold. Kazakhstan (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 2.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Ukraine amounted to +22.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Czech Republic (+28.0% per year) and Kazakhstan (-1.1% per year).

In value terms, Ukraine ($X) constituted the largest supplier of millet to Poland, comprising 81% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 7.4% share of total imports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with a 2.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Ukraine totaled +25.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Czech Republic (+36.6% per year) and Kazakhstan (+1.6% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average millet import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 6.6% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, millet import price increased by +18.4% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 68%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while the price for Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
