Office Supply Market Size in Poland

In 2022, the Polish office supply market increased by 38% to $X, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. Over the period under review, the total consumption indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption increased by +105.4% against 2020 indices. Office supply consumption peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, office supply production dropped to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, recorded a pronounced contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the production volume increased by 12%. Over the period under review, production attained the maximum level at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, shipments abroad of office or school supplies of plastics decreased by -6.1% to X tons, falling for the third consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 19%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, office supply exports declined to $X in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +64.5% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 23%. The exports peaked at $X in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

Germany (X tons) was the main destination for office supply exports from Poland, with a 51% share of total exports. Moreover, office supply exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the Czech Republic (X tons), eightfold. The third position in this ranking was held by France (X tons), with a 6.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Germany stood at +1.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Czech Republic (-1.3% per year) and France (-3.8% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the key foreign market for office or school supplies of plastics exports from Poland, comprising 57% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by France ($X), with a 5.4% share of total exports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 5.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Germany amounted to +5.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (+1.3% per year) and the Czech Republic (-0.1% per year).

Overall, export price indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, office supply export price increased by +50.6% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 29% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, approx. X tons of office or school supplies of plastics were imported into Poland; waning by -3.9% compared with 2021. In general, total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +22.4% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 70%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest office supply supplier to Poland, accounting for a 45% share of total imports. Moreover, office supply imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Turkey (X tons), twofold. Germany (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 17% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China amounted to +7.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (+3.7% per year) and Germany (+8.5% per year).

In value terms, the largest office supply suppliers to Poland were China ($X), Germany ($X) and Turkey ($X), with a combined 76% share of total imports. The Netherlands, France, the Czech Republic and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 12%.

In terms of the main suppliers, the Netherlands, with a CAGR of +14.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average office supply import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, reducing by -4.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, posted slight growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the average import price increased by 79% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+3.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
