Overall, total exports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 16%. The exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, lock and key exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total exports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Germany (X tons) was the main destination for lock and key exports from Poland, accounting for a 28% share of total exports. Moreover, lock and key exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Russia (X tons), fourfold. Romania (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 5.8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Germany totaled +4.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Russia (+1.5% per year) and Romania (+16.6% per year).
In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the key foreign market for padlocks, locks and keys of base metal exports from Poland, comprising 30% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Russia ($X), with a 6.6% share of total exports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 5.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Germany amounted to +4.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Russia (+1.0% per year) and the Czech Republic (+10.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average lock and key export price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 13% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Romania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Lithuania (+5.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Poland
Lock and key imports into Poland soared to X tons in 2021, growing by 18% compared with 2020 figures. In general, total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +46.6% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 22% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, lock and key imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +85.5% against 2015 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Germany (X tons), China (X tons) and Austria (X tons) were the main suppliers of lock and key imports to Poland, together accounting for 71% of total imports. These countries were followed by Slovakia, Italy, Turkey, the Czech Republic and Hungary, which together accounted for a further 20%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Turkey (with a CAGR of +22.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest lock and key suppliers to Poland were Germany ($X), China ($X) and Austria ($X), together accounting for 69% of total imports. Italy, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Turkey and Hungary lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 18%.
Turkey, with a CAGR of +21.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average lock and key import price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 9.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 12% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per ton), while the price for Slovakia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
