The Polish peanut butter market fell to $X in 2022, with a decrease of -5.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption showed a slight setback. For the eleventh year in a row, Poland recorded growth in overseas shipments of peanut butter and prepared or preserved groundnuts, which increased by 16% to X tons in 2022. In general, exports recorded a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 24% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

In value terms, peanut butter exports expanded significantly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by 23%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Germany (X tons), Romania (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) were the main destinations of peanut butter exports from Poland, with a combined 44% share of total exports. Bulgaria, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Spain, Austria, Hungary, Croatia, Lithuania, Sweden and Ukraine lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 45%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Sweden (with a CAGR of +142.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Romania ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X) constituted the largest markets for peanut butter exported from Poland worldwide, with a combined 44% share of total exports. The Netherlands, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Spain, Austria, Croatia, Hungary, Lithuania, Sweden and Ukraine lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 43%.

Sweden, with a CAGR of +141.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average peanut butter export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by -4.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a slight slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 7.5%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to Lithuania ($X per ton) and Sweden ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Bulgaria ($X per ton) and Austria ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Croatia (-0.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Poland

For the third consecutive year, Poland recorded growth in purchases abroad of peanut butter and prepared or preserved groundnuts, which increased by 20% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +19.2% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, peanut butter imports soared to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +1.7% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 46%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

China (X tons), Germany (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main suppliers of peanut butter imports to Poland, with a combined 88% share of total imports. Greece, Slovakia and the UK lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 6.8%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Greece (with a CAGR of +24.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest peanut butter suppliers to Poland were Germany ($X), China ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), together comprising 86% of total imports. Greece, the UK and Slovakia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 7.9%.

Greece, with a CAGR of +15.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average peanut butter import price amounted to $X per ton, declining by -2.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the average import price increased by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Greece ($X per ton), while the price for Slovakia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
