In 2022, the Polish piper pepper market increased by 6.1% to $X, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 36%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

The Czech Republic (X tons), Romania (X tons) and Ukraine (X tons) were the main destinations of piper pepper exports from Poland, together accounting for 43% of total exports. Germany, Italy, Spain, Croatia, France, Russia, Slovakia, the UK, Latvia and Hungary lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 46%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Italy (with a CAGR of +155.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average piper pepper export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 9.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a mild shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 27%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Romania (+1.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, approx. X tons of piper pepper were imported into Poland; waning by -5.1% compared with the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 25% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, piper pepper imports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 34% against the previous year. In 2022, Vietnam (X tons) constituted the largest piper pepper supplier to Poland, with a 79% share of total imports. Moreover, piper pepper imports from Vietnam exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Netherlands (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by India (X tons), with a 3.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Vietnam amounted to +6.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (+1.5% per year) and India (-5.5% per year).

In value terms, Vietnam ($X) constituted the largest supplier of piper pepper to Poland, comprising 77% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Netherlands ($X), with a 4.2% share of total imports. It was followed by India, with a 3.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Vietnam totaled +3.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (-4.6% per year) and India (-4.7% per year).

In 2022, the average piper pepper import price amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a pronounced setback. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
