In general, exports showed a significant contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 30%. The exports peaked at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, spectacle plastic frame exports dropped significantly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports faced a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 44% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

The UK (X units) was the main destination for spectacle plastic frame exports from Poland, with a 22% share of total exports. Moreover, spectacle plastic frame exports to the UK exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Romania (X units), twofold. Russia (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 9.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to the UK amounted to +1.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Romania (+5.6% per year) and Russia (-13.7% per year).

In value terms, the UK ($X), Germany ($X) and Russia ($X) constituted the largest markets for spectacle plastic frame exported from Poland worldwide, with a combined 52% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Romania, Spain, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Belarus, Croatia, Israel, Switzerland, Bulgaria and Serbia, which together accounted for a further 32%.

Switzerland, with a CAGR of +82.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average spectacle plastic frame export price amounted to $X per unit, with an increase of 48% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +8.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, spectacle plastic frame export price increased by +71.7% against 2016 indices. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Serbia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+17.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Poland

After two years of decline, overseas purchases of plastic frames and mountings for spectacles and goggles increased by 38% to X units in 2021. In general, imports posted a tangible expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 41% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, spectacle plastic frame imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

China (X units), Italy (X units) and Germany (X units) were the main suppliers of spectacle plastic frame imports to Poland, with a combined 88% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Germany (with a CAGR of +15.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

Based on 2021 figures, spectacle plastic frame import price increased by +67.2% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average import price increased by 27% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Cyprus ($X per unit), while the price for China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
