The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 65%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then dropped modestly in the following year.

Germany (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Hungary (X tons) were the main destinations of polypropylene in primary forms exports from Poland, with a combined 58% share of total exports. Italy, Slovakia, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Sweden and Lithuania lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 30%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for France (with a CAGR of +44.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of polypropylene in primary forms decreased by -16.2% to X tons for the first time since 2011, thus ending a ten-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 26%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then declined sharply in the following year.

In value terms, polypropylene in primary forms imports fell to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 85% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then declined in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of polypropylene in primary forms to Poland, with a 23% share of total imports. Moreover, polypropylene in primary forms imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Czech Republic (X tons), twofold. Russia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Germany totaled +6.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Czech Republic (+7.3% per year) and Russia (+161.5% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of polypropylene in primary forms to Poland, comprising 24% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Czech Republic ($X), with an 8.6% share of total imports. It was followed by South Korea, with an 8.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Germany totaled +6.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Czech Republic (+9.7% per year) and South Korea (+22.4% per year).

The average polypropylene in primary forms import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 1.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the average import price increased by 46%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the highest price was recorded for prices from Italy ($X per ton) and France ($X per ton), while the price for Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) and Russia ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
