Overall, total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +106.6% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 29%. The exports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
In value terms, polystyrene in primary forms exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, total exports indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Malaysia (X tons) was the main destination for polystyrene in primary forms exports from Poland, accounting for a 27% share of total exports. Moreover, polystyrene in primary forms exports to Malaysia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Italy (X tons), twofold. Germany (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Malaysia amounted to +237.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Italy (+0.2% per year) and Germany (+19.3% per year).
In value terms, the largest markets for polystyrene in primary forms exported from Poland were Germany ($X), Italy ($X) and Austria ($X), together comprising 50% of total exports. Malaysia, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Romania, the UK, Finland, Slovakia, Sweden and Belarus lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 41%.
Among the main countries of destination, Malaysia, with a CAGR of +144.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bulgaria (+1.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 17%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
