In 2022, the amount of polyvinyl chloride exported from Poland surged to X tons, rising by 20% compared with 2021 figures. Overall, exports saw a slight increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 31% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, polyvinyl chloride exports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 66%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Germany (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the main destinations of polyvinyl chloride exports from Poland, together comprising 52% of total exports. Turkey, Romania, Hungary, Ukraine and Belarus lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 35%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Romania (with a CAGR of +23.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Italy ($X) constituted the largest markets for polyvinyl chloride exported from Poland worldwide, together comprising 55% of total exports. In general, export price indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, polyvinyl chloride export price increased by +95.7% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average export price increased by 77% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Belarus ($X per ton) and Italy ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Turkey ($X per ton) and Romania ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+6.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Poland
In 2022, supplies from abroad of polyvinyl chloride decreased by -22.5% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, total imports indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by +1.0% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 32% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, polyvinyl chloride imports declined to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 103% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then dropped in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of polyvinyl chloride to Poland, accounting for a 42% share of total imports. Moreover, polyvinyl chloride imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Sweden (X tons), fourfold. Hungary (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 9.8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Germany was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Sweden (+9.7% per year) and Hungary (+3.9% per year).
In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of polyvinyl chloride to Poland, comprising 44% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Hungary ($X), with a 9.3% share of total imports. It was followed by Sweden, with a 9.3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Germany amounted to +4.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Hungary (+9.2% per year) and Sweden (+14.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average polyvinyl chloride import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, jumping by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, polyvinyl chloride import price increased by +81.9% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 53%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
