Explosives Market Size in Poland

The Polish explosives market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2021, after three years of decline. Over the period under review, the total consumption indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption decreased by -13.7% against 2017 indices. Explosives consumption peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, explosives production expanded slightly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, the total production indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production decreased by -8.4% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 32%. Over the period under review, production reached the maximum level at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports from Poland

After five years of growth, overseas shipments of prepared explosives decreased by -4.9% to X tons in 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2020, and then fell slightly in the following year.

In value terms, explosives exports amounted to $X in 2021. Overall, total exports indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +77.1% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 24% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

Germany (X tons), Sweden (X tons) and Norway (X tons) were the main destinations of explosives exports from Poland, together accounting for 57% of total exports. Serbia, Greece, Austria, Slovenia, Italy, Romania, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Finland lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 31%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Serbia (with a CAGR of +167.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for explosives exported from Poland were Sweden ($X), Germany ($X) and Norway ($X), with a combined 48% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Greece, Serbia, Italy, Austria, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Finland, which together accounted for a further 24%.

Serbia, with a CAGR of +156.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average explosives export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 8.1% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 14%. The export price peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Serbia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+3.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Poland

In 2021, explosives imports into Poland surged to X tons, rising by 23% compared with the previous year. Overall, imports continue to indicate a moderate expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 169%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, explosives imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 193%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of explosives to Poland, accounting for a 75% share of total imports. Moreover, explosives imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Czech Republic (X tons), ninefold. Austria (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 7.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Germany totaled +46.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Czech Republic (+30.9% per year) and Austria (+589.1% per year).

In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X), Germany ($X) and Austria ($X) were the largest explosives suppliers to Poland, with a combined 94% share of total imports.

Austria, with a CAGR of +375.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average explosives import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the average import price increased by 117% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while the price for France ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+67.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
