In value terms, salt exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +53.8% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 47% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
The Czech Republic (X tons), Ukraine (X tons) and Slovakia (X tons) were the main destinations of salt exports from Poland, with a combined 72% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Ukraine (with a CAGR of +48.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Ukraine ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for salt and pure sodium chloride exports from Poland, comprising 33% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Ukraine amounted to +46.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Czech Republic (-0.8% per year) and Germany (-4.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average salt export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 33% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, salt export price increased by +32.9% against 2014 indices. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the Czech Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+8.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Poland
In 2022, approx. X tons of salt and pure sodium chloride were imported into Poland; declining by -2.2% against 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 102%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, salt imports rose modestly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, posted prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 85%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest salt supplier to Poland, with a 58% share of total imports. Moreover, salt imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Morocco (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Egypt (X tons), with a 14% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Germany stood at +13.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Morocco (+156.1% per year) and Egypt (+86.9% per year).
In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of salt and pure sodium chloride to Poland, comprising 49% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Morocco ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Egypt, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Germany stood at +12.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Morocco (+60.6% per year) and Egypt (+72.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average salt import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 5.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a mild reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 16%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while the price for Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ukraine (+1.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
