In 2022, the Polish silica sand market increased by 15% to $X for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. In 2022, shipments abroad of silica sands (quartz sands or industrial sands) decreased by -6.1% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, exports, however, posted a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 113% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, silica sand exports dropped modestly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 85%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

Exports by Country

The Czech Republic (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Slovakia (X tons) were the main destinations of silica sand exports from Poland, with a combined 83% share of total exports. Austria and Hungary lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 13%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Hungary (with a CAGR of +31.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, silica sand export price decreased by -31.2% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 27%. Imports into Poland

For the third year in a row, Poland recorded growth in purchases abroad of silica sands (quartz sands or industrial sands), which increased by 47% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports recorded strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 107% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, silica sand imports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw prominent growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 61% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

In 2022, the Czech Republic (X tons) constituted the largest silica sand supplier to Poland, accounting for a 62% share of total imports. Moreover, silica sand imports from the Czech Republic exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by France (X tons), with a 9.4% share.

Based on 2022 figures, silica sand import price decreased by -15.2% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the average import price increased by 70%.
