The Polish sugary soft drink market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2022, after three years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. For the eleventh consecutive year, Poland recorded growth in overseas shipments of sugary soft drinks, which increased by 7.4% to X litres in 2022. Overall, exports posted significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 34% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, sugary soft drink exports expanded rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, exports saw strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 41% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

Germany (X litres), Lithuania (X litres) and Ukraine (X litres) were the main destinations of sugary soft drink exports from Poland, together comprising 34% of total exports. The Czech Republic, France, Latvia, Chile, the UK, Slovakia, Israel, Hungary and the Netherlands lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 43%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Chile (with a CAGR of +80.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average sugary soft drink export price stood at $X per litre in 2022, leveling off at the previous year. In general, the export price showed a slight shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 13%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per litre. From 2015 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per litre), while the average price for exports to Ukraine ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, overseas purchases of sugary soft drinks increased by 13% to X litres, rising for the fifth year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports recorded a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 64% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, sugary soft drink imports expanded notably to $X in 2022. Overall, imports posted a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 53% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

Ireland (X litres), Austria (X litres) and Hungary (X litres) were the main suppliers of sugary soft drink imports to Poland, with a combined 61% share of total imports. The Czech Republic, Germany, the Netherlands, Ukraine, Switzerland, Romania, Bulgaria and Italy lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 33%.

In 2022, the average sugary soft drink import price amounted to $X per litre, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, sugary soft drink import price increased by +9.7% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average import price increased by 47% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per litre in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per litre), while the price for Hungary ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
