Tomato Market Size in Poland

As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, purchases abroad of tomatoes decreased by -0.8% to X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year rising trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 24%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, tomato imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +97.1% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 26%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

The Netherlands (X tons), Spain (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main suppliers of tomato imports to Poland, together accounting for 74% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in France (with a CAGR of +30.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), Spain ($X) and Germany ($X) appeared to be the largest tomato suppliers to Poland, with a combined 78% share of total imports. France, Turkey and Italy lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 19%.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
