In 2021, the Polish glass fiber market was finally on the rise to reach $X after eight years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a deep reduction. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 20% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, glass fiber exports amounted to $X in 2021. In general, total exports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 26%. The exports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

The Czech Republic (X tons), Slovakia (X tons) and Austria (X tons) were the main destinations of glass fiber exports from Poland, with a combined 49% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Austria (with a CAGR of +49.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for glass fiber exported from Poland were the Czech Republic ($X), Germany ($X) and Sweden ($X), together comprising 36% of total exports. These countries were followed by Denmark, the UK, Italy, Slovakia, Austria, France, Spain, Hungary, Turkey and Lithuania, which together accounted for a further 45%.

The UK, with a CAGR of +45.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average glass fiber export price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 7.8% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 17%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Slovakia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hungary (+8.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, glass fiber imports into Poland totaled X tons, picking up by 11% compared with 2020 figures. Overall, imports showed prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 32%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, glass fiber imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Moreover, glass fiber imports from the Czech Republic exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Belarus (X tons), fourfold. China (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from the Czech Republic totaled +7.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belarus (+50.9% per year) and China (+4.4% per year).

In value terms, the largest glass fiber suppliers to Poland were the Czech Republic ($X), China ($X) and Germany ($X), together comprising 43% of total imports. The UK, Russia, Belarus, Sweden, France, Belgium, Turkey, Egypt, Morocco and Lithuania lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 37%.

Among the main suppliers, Morocco, with a CAGR of +234.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average glass fiber import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 3.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a mild curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 20% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
