For the third year in a row, the Portuguese telephone apparatus market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 49% to $X in 2022. In general, consumption enjoyed a resilient expansion. As a result, consumption attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, telephone apparatus exports from Portugal declined to X tons, falling by -5.2% against the year before. Overall, exports, however, saw buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 72% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, telephone apparatus exports rose markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +19.3% against 2020 indices. Germany (X tons) was the main destination for telephone apparatus exports from Portugal, with a 24% share of total exports. Moreover, telephone apparatus exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the Netherlands (X tons), fivefold. The United States (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 5.1% share.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Qatar, with a CAGR of +136.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average telephone apparatus export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 7.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a pronounced slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 35%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of telephone apparatus increased by 18% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. In general, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +45.5% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 65% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, telephone apparatus imports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports posted a buoyant increase. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Spain (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main suppliers of telephone apparatus imports to Portugal, with a combined 23% share of total imports. France, Belgium, Sweden, Germany, Hungary, Vietnam, Poland, Italy and the UK lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 21%.
