Circuit Breaker Market Size in Portugal

In 2022, the Portuguese circuit breaker market increased by 23% to $X, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, the total consumption indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +10.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption increased by +39.2% against 2020 indices. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, circuit breaker exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, total exports indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +12.7% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 56%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

Italy (X units) was the main destination for circuit breaker exports from Portugal, with a 63% share of total exports. Moreover, circuit breaker exports to Italy exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Angola (X units), fourfold. Mozambique (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 8.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Italy was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Angola (+0.9% per year) and Mozambique (+7.3% per year).

In value terms, Italy ($X) remains the key foreign market for automatic circuit breakers exports from Portugal, comprising 60% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by France ($X), with a 26% share of total exports. It was followed by Angola, with a 6.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Italy was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (+12.7% per year) and Angola (-4.8% per year).

In general, imports showed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 63%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, circuit breaker imports expanded significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +31.3% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 39%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

China (X units), Spain (X units) and France (X units) were the main suppliers of circuit breaker imports to Portugal, together comprising 79% of total imports. Italy, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 17%.

In 2022, the average circuit breaker import price amounted to $X per unit, waning by -18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a pronounced contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average import price increased by 13% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while the price for China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
