As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

France (X tons), Spain (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main destinations of bridge exports from Portugal, together accounting for 64% of total exports. These countries were followed by the Netherlands, Belgium, the UK, Ireland, Greece and Angola, which together accounted for a further 29%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +62.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, France ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for bridges, bridge sections, towers and lattice masts (of iron or steel) exports from Portugal, comprising 34% of total exports. From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to France totaled +18.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (-3.5% per year) and Spain (+7.0% per year).

In 2021, the average bridge export price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 10% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a pronounced reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average export price increased by 16%. Imports into Portugal
In 2021, the amount of bridges, bridge sections, towers and lattice masts (of iron or steel) imported into Portugal fell to X tons, with a decrease of -10.9% compared with the previous year. In general, imports, however, saw a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 706%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2020, and then fell in the following year.
In value terms, bridge imports reduced to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 424% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Spain (X tons) constituted the largest bridge supplier to Portugal, with a 50% share of total imports. Moreover, bridge imports from Spain exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, South Korea (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by China (X tons), with an 18% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Spain stood at +22.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Korea (+159.5% per year) and China (+77.2% per year).
In value terms, Spain ($X) constituted the largest supplier of bridges, bridge sections, towers and lattice masts (of iron or steel) to Portugal, comprising 52% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by South Korea, with a 16% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Spain amounted to +19.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+72.9% per year) and South Korea (+159.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average bridge import price amounted to $X per ton, falling by -1.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a abrupt contraction.
