In 2021, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in the Portuguese carob market, when its value decreased by -5.6% to $X. In general, consumption recorded a resilient increase. In value terms, carob exports amounted to $X in 2021. Overall, exports saw a perceptible curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 119% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Algeria (X tons), Spain (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main destinations of carob exports from Portugal, with a combined 99% share of total exports.
