In value terms, copper bar, rod and profile exports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, exports showed a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 211% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Germany (X tons) was the main destination for copper bar, rod and profile exports from Portugal, accounting for a 67% share of total exports. Moreover, copper bar, rod and profile exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Spain (X tons), sevenfold. France (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 8% share.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 41%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Overall, total imports indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last decade.
