After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of copper wire increased by 6.5% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a slight slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 19% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, copper wire imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, Spain (X tons) constituted the largest copper wire supplier to Portugal, with a 73% share of total imports. Moreover, copper wire imports from Spain exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Italy (X tons), fivefold. Belgium (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Spain amounted to -1.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (+54.4% per year) and Belgium (-4.8% per year).
