Fig Market Size in Portugal

In 2022, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in the Portuguese fig market, when its value increased by 7.1% to $X. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Fig consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 64% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, fig imports shrank to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 48%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then fell in the following year.
