Hazelnut Market Size in Portugal

The Portuguese hazelnut market dropped markedly to $X in 2021, with a decrease of -18.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption recorded a noticeable curtailment. Hazelnut consumption peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, hazelnut exports contracted dramatically to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed a pronounced downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 1,172%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Imports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, hazelnut imports declined remarkably to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 126% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, Spain (X tons) constituted the largest hazelnut supplier to Portugal, with a 73% share of total imports.
