Spain (X tons) was the main destination for plastic household articles exports from Portugal, with a 43% share of total exports. Moreover, plastic household articles exports to Spain exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the Netherlands (X tons), fourfold. Belgium (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Spain totaled +8.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belgium (+49.1% per year) and France (+8.0% per year).

The average plastic household articles export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a slight decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the average export price increased by 12%. In general, imports posted a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
In value terms, plastic household articles imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 38% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Spain (X tons) constituted the largest plastic household articles supplier to Portugal, accounting for a 67% share of total imports. Moreover, plastic household articles imports from Spain exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), more than tenfold. France (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 6% share.
