In value terms, Spain ($X) remains the key foreign market for industrial robots for multiple uses exports from Portugal, comprising 52% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by France, with a 9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Spain stood at +1.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (+25.7% per year) and France (+14.0% per year).

The average industrial robot export price stood at $X per unit in 2021, falling by -9.6% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.8%. In 2021, purchases abroad of industrial robots for multiple uses was finally on the rise to reach X units after two years of decline. Overall, imports saw a noticeable expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 67%. Imports peaked at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, industrial robot imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports posted a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 73% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Spain (X units) constituted the largest industrial robot supplier to Portugal, with a 55% share of total imports. Moreover, industrial robot imports from Spain exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X units), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Sweden (X units), with an 8.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Spain stood at +16.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (-8.9% per year) and Sweden (+1.4% per year).
In value terms, Spain ($X) constituted the largest supplier of industrial robots for multiple uses to Portugal, comprising 50% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Denmark ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with an 8.4% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Spain amounted to +12.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Denmark (+74.3% per year) and Germany (-9.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average industrial robot import price stood at $X per unit in 2021, declining by -17.6% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded slight growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average import price increased by 36% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($X per unit), while the price for Germany ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+9.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
