The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 33% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, lift, elevator, stairway and dragline exports rose significantly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a abrupt setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Angola (X units), Cyprus (X units) and Algeria (X units) were the main destinations of lift, elevator, stairway and dragline exports from Portugal, together comprising 49% of total exports. Bulgaria, Spain, Mexico, Malta, Cabo Verde, the United States, France, Israel and Mozambique lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 39%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Bulgaria (with a CAGR of +91.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Angola ($X), Cyprus ($X) and Algeria ($X) were the largest markets for lift, elevator, stairway and dragline exported from Portugal worldwide, together comprising 47% of total exports. Overall, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +78.7% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 21%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, lift, elevator, stairway and dragline imports declined to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 17%. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then dropped modestly in the following year.

In 2022, Spain (X units) constituted the largest lift, elevator, stairway and dragline supplier to Portugal, with a 70% share of total imports.
