The Portuguese public works machinery market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2021, after three years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a pronounced decline. Public works machinery consumption peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Spain (X units), France (X units) and the United Arab Emirates (X units) were the main destinations of public works machinery exports from Portugal, together accounting for 38% of total exports. Angola, Germany, Cote d'Ivoire, the United States, Benin, Vietnam, Guinea, Ghana, India and the UK lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 43%.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 60% against the previous year. In 2021, approx. X units of machinery for public works and building were imported into Portugal; increasing by 35% on the year before. Overall, imports saw pronounced growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 342% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, public works machinery imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports saw strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 59%.
