Angola (X tons) was the main destination for non-medical x-ray exports from Portugal, with a 87% share of total exports. Moreover, non-medical x-ray exports to Angola exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Spain (X tons), tenfold. Georgia (X kg) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 2.8% share.

In value terms, Angola ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for non-medical x-rays exports from Portugal, comprising 88% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Spain ($X), with a 7.8% share of total exports. It was followed by Guinea-Bissau, with a 1.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Angola amounted to +2.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Spain (-21.3% per year) and Guinea-Bissau (+120.7% per year).

In 2021, the average non-medical x-ray export price amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -14.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a tangible increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average export price increased by 655% against the previous year. There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Angola ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Georgia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Guinea-Bissau (+17.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Portugal
In 2021, non-medical x-ray imports into Portugal skyrocketed to X tons, rising by 16% on 2020 figures. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 212%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, non-medical x-ray imports amounted to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 91% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Germany (X tons), Japan (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main suppliers of non-medical x-ray imports to Portugal, with a combined 68% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for China (with a CAGR of +129.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 55%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
