The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 37%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

France (X units), Germany (X units) and Spain (X units) were the main destinations of air conditioning machine exports from Portugal, with a combined 54% share of total exports. Angola, Belgium, Ireland, Cabo Verde and Mozambique lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 36%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Ireland (with a CAGR of +83.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X units in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, air conditioning machine imports expanded remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +25.0% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Spain (X units), Italy (X units) and France (X units) were the main suppliers of air conditioning machine imports to Portugal, together comprising 77% of total imports. China, Poland, the Netherlands and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 17%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Poland (with a CAGR of +126.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a mild setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 25%. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per unit), while the price for the Netherlands ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+24.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
