From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, phosphinates and phosphonates exports surged to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a pronounced shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 433%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Angola (X tons) and Mozambique (X kg) were the main destinations of phosphinates and phosphonates exports from Portugal.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Mozambique (with a CAGR of +20.6%).
In value terms, Angola ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for phosphinates (hypophosphites) and phosphonates (phosphites) exports from Portugal, comprising 68% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mozambique ($X), with a 32% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Angola amounted to +8.1%.

In 2022, the average phosphinates and phosphonates export price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 91% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a measured expansion. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Angola ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Mozambique stood at $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Angola (+17.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Portugal
In 2022, overseas purchases of phosphinates (hypophosphites) and phosphonates (phosphites) increased by 81% to X tons, rising for the third year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, imports, however, saw a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 285%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, phosphinates and phosphonates imports shrank modestly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a slight decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 184%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Spain (X tons), China (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main suppliers of phosphinates and phosphonates imports to Portugal, together comprising 95% of total imports. Italy and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 4.8%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Germany (with a CAGR of +16.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Spain ($X), China ($X) and France ($X) constituted the largest phosphinates and phosphonates suppliers to Portugal, with a combined 96% share of total imports.
Among the main suppliers, China, with a CAGR of +19.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
