From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, phosphinates and phosphonates exports surged to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a pronounced shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 433%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Angola (X tons) and Mozambique (X kg) were the main destinations of phosphinates and phosphonates exports from Portugal.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Mozambique (with a CAGR of +20.6%).

In value terms, Angola ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for phosphinates (hypophosphites) and phosphonates (phosphites) exports from Portugal, comprising 68% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mozambique ($X), with a 32% share of total exports.

In 2022, overseas purchases of phosphinates (hypophosphites) and phosphonates (phosphites) increased by 81% to X tons, rising for the third year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, imports, however, saw a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 285%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, phosphinates and phosphonates imports shrank modestly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a slight decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 184%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Spain (X tons), China (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main suppliers of phosphinates and phosphonates imports to Portugal, together comprising 95% of total imports. Italy and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 4.8%.
