Platinum Market Size in Portugal

In 2021, the Portuguese platinum market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2012, thus ending a eight-year declining trend. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a deep downturn. In value terms, platinum exports shrank rapidly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a abrupt contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 675%. The exports peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Malta (X kg) was the main destination for platinum exports from Portugal, with a 89% share of total exports. Moreover, platinum exports to Malta exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, France (X kg), tenfold.
