The exports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then shrank sharply in the following year.

In value terms, polycarbonate exports reduced remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 45%. The exports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Spain (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Poland (X tons) were the main destinations of polycarbonate exports from Portugal, with a combined 64% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Brazil, Switzerland, France, China and Germany, which together accounted for a further 27%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Brazil (with a CAGR of +87.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, imports saw a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 72% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

In value terms, polycarbonate imports expanded notably to $X in 2022. In general, imports posted a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 43% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Germany (X tons), Spain (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main suppliers of polycarbonate imports to Portugal, with a combined 85% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Italy, South Korea and Belgium, which together accounted for a further 11%.
