Toothpaste Market Size in Portugal

In 2021, the Portuguese toothpaste market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, consumption, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The exports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, toothpaste exports expanded rapidly to $X in 2021. Overall, total exports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -15.1% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 61% against the previous year. From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Spain stood at +3.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Cabo Verde (+10.2% per year) and France (+37.2% per year).

The second position in the ranking was taken by Cabo Verde ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Angola, with a 7.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Spain totaled +8.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Cabo Verde (+11.6% per year) and Angola (-13.7% per year).

The average toothpaste export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, stabilizing at the previous year. In general, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
