There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Angola ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to South Africa ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Angola (+1.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2021, the amount of uncooked pasta imported into Portugal rose rapidly to X tons, increasing by 9.9% compared with 2020 figures. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, uncooked pasta imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 32%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Spain (X tons) constituted the largest uncooked pasta supplier to Portugal, with a 55% share of total imports. Moreover, uncooked pasta imports from Spain exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Italy (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by France (X tons), with a 6.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Spain stood at +2.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (-6.9% per year) and France (+0.9% per year).

Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 13%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
