Spain (X units) was the main destination for non-propelled vehicle exports from Portugal, accounting for a 55% share of total exports. Moreover, non-propelled vehicle exports to Spain exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, France (X units), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Angola (X units), with a 4.5% share.

In 2021, imports of vehicles not mechanically propelled into Portugal rose rapidly to X units, increasing by 7% on the year before. Overall, imports posted a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 67%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, non-propelled vehicle imports expanded sharply to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 101%. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Germany (X units), China (X units) and France (X units) were the main suppliers of non-propelled vehicle imports to Portugal, with a combined 75% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Spain, the Netherlands, Italy and Switzerland, which together accounted for a further 23%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Switzerland (with a CAGR of +102.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X), France ($X) and Spain ($X) appeared to be the largest non-propelled vehicle suppliers to Portugal, with a combined 75% share of total imports. These countries were followed by China, Italy, the Netherlands and Switzerland, which together accounted for a further 21%.
