In value terms, waterproof footwear exports dropped rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then dropped remarkably in the following year.

The UK (X pairs), Germany (X pairs) and Spain (X pairs) were the main destinations of waterproof footwear exports from Portugal, together accounting for 41% of total exports. In 2022, supplies from abroad of waterproof footwear increased by 12% to X pairs, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 42% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X pairs in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, waterproof footwear imports rose modestly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

France (X pairs), China (X pairs) and Spain (X pairs) were the main suppliers of waterproof footwear imports to Portugal, together comprising 64% of total imports. The Netherlands, Italy, Belgium and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 27%.
